AHSHA FAIR PLAY GUIDELINES

FAIR PLAY GUIDELINES

Fair Play rewards sportsmanship and withholds that reward for inappropriate conduct by players, coaches and spectators.  Fair Play will not decide the outcome of individual games, but consistently good (or bad) behavior will have a cumulative effect on league standings and playoff seeding.  It is the objective of AHSHA to ensure respect for the game, rules and competition.  As a result, AHSHA will reinforce Fair Play by consistently enforcing Fair Play rules and firmly administering disciplinary policies to reduce violence and player injuries.  The goal of AHSHA is to provide a safe and positive experience for our players, coaches and spectators.

AHSHA's Fair Play Rules have been adjusted as a result of changes in USA Hockey rules that increase the penalty minutes associated with boarding, charging and head contact which now result in a two-minute minor and 10 minute misconduct penalty.

FAIR PLAY RULES:
  • Each team will earn a “Fair Play” point provided:
1. Total “Fair Play” penalty minutes do not exceed 16 minutes per regular season game.
2. A coach is not assessed a game misconduct or match penalty.
3. Spectator conduct does not become so abusive that in the opinion of the referee or rink coordinator, the spectator conduct is:
  • distracting from the game
  • inciting players
  • requiring the referee/rink coordinator to either stop play or request the offending individuals to leave the arena
  • requiring the Sheriff’s deputy to intercede to control the spectator misconduct
  • the result of spectator “Gross Misconduct” as defined in AHSHA’s Policy Guide
  • The “Fair Play” point earned will be in addition to the points awarded for winning or tying a game and will count in the league standings, including the initial seeding for playoffs.
