AHSHA DRUG & ALCOHOL POLICY
AHSHA’s goal is to provide a safe and healthy environment for High School students to participate in amateur hockey at the High School level. It is the considered judgment of the AHSHA Board of Directors and of USA Hockey that consumption/use/abuse of mood-altering substances is detrimental to a healthy state of mind, body, and spirit in an athletic participant. In addition, our goal is to provide consistent and clear enforcement for a chemically free organization. The possession, use, distribution, delivery, transfer, sale, consumption and/or purchase of any tobacco products, alcoholic beverages, controlled substances, prescription or non-prescription drugs, drug paraphernalia including e-cigarettes, vaping devices or vaping products while at any AHSHA sponsored event is strictly prohibited throughout the calendar year.
AHSHA prohibits the use by any athletic participant of alcohol or drugs, as these terms are defined below, during participation in its programs as follows:
Any player(s) requiring the use of an Asthma Inhaler, Epi Pen or any other prescription medication must have proper prescription labeling with the player’s name.
Minors who are in possession of or under the influence of any form of alcohol, chewing tobacco, snuff tobacco, vaping paraphernalia, e-Cigs, non-prescription drugs, prescribed medication (excluding asthma inhalers or Epi Pens) or other illegal substances may be referred to law enforcement for prosecution.
For purposes of this policy, the word “alcohol” shall include the following:
Further, the word “participant” shall include players, coaches, referees, and all persons involved in the conduct of an AHSHA ice hockey contest or sponsored event.
AHSHA prohibits the use by any athletic participant of alcohol or drugs, as these terms are defined below, during participation in its programs as follows:
- Zero tolerance for possession or use of drugs by any participant unless participant is currently under a doctor’s care and the medication is required for treatment of an illness or injury.
- Zero tolerance for providing or condoning the use of alcohol or drugs to a minor athlete by a coach, assistant coach, manager, official or any other person who is in a position of authority over that athlete;
- Zero tolerance for being under the influence of alcohol or drugs while supervising minor athletes or while participating in a USA Hockey practice, game or event; and
- Abuse of alcohol or drugs by an athletic participant while participating at a USA Hockey event other than that prohibited by #3 above.

- Intoxicating beverages.
- Any liquids containing mixture of alcohol
- Any legally controlled or regulated substances.
- Any prescription or prescribed controlled substances when used to an excess in violation of doctors orders, or to produce the state of intoxication in the participant.
- Any mood altering or psychoactive substance that produces a state of intoxication in the participant, including e-Cigs, vaping and vaping devices, tobacco, chewing tobacco, and snuff tobacco.
